The panel
Click MiniControl in the menu bar. From the top:
- The header: the server’s name, how it’s connected (Tailscale or home network) and how long it’s been up. With several servers, switch between them here.
- Problems: a banner when something’s wrong. Click it for the details.
- Disk, memory and CPU: with the last 30 minutes of memory and CPU as sparklines.
- Launchers: Screen Sharing, Terminal, Files and your code editor.
- Services: one row per service, with a switch. See Services.
- Actions: your commands and scheduled jobs, Dev Hosts and Restart. See Actions.
- This Mac: Tailscale on this Mac, and the server role if it has one.
Right-click any row or tile and choose Edit… to jump to its settings.
What the controls do on the server
Section titled “What the controls do on the server”| Control | What happens |
|---|---|
| Service switch on | launchctl enable, bootstrap if it isn’t loaded, then kickstart |
| Service switch off | launchctl disable and bootout. It stays off across restarts until you switch it on |
| Restart a service | launchctl kickstart -k |
| Screen Sharing | Opens vnc:// on the connection that answered |
| Files | Opens smb://. Needs File Sharing on the server |
| Restart… | Restarts the server, then waits for a new boot and for every service to be up |
The panel refreshes every 30 seconds (change it in Settings → General) and each time you open it. A paired Mac gets changes pushed from the server instead of polling.
